Jim Wysolmierski is an artist working in sculpture and installation, whose practice engages material systems and the intersection of industrial and bodily forms.
Through an exploration of materials, I create idiosyncratic sculptures and installations that serve as metaphorical testimonies of transformation, symbolizing the journey from suffering to healing. Reoccurring themes in my work include subjective memories tied to industrial resources, feelings of safety or danger within interior spaces, and the evolving nature of my identity. Within these overlapping threads, by philosophically engaging with both the corporeal and the allegorical, I utilize forms to express lived experiences of trepidation and metamorphosis.
The core of my practice is a belief in the power of foundational elements, both in art and life. I repurpose materials as a metaphor for second chances and as a representation of the process of rebuilding, where each sculpture is a step towards healing and renewal. I draw on principles from Buddhism, affect theory, phenomenology, and materiality to guide my endeavors. These approaches help me to reflect on my position in the world and the ways in which transformation is possible.
